its taken almost 3 years to get the man like medlar back on delusions following his 2015 release with dan shake but finally its come together. that release, along with his regular output for wolf, riverette and for discos only has helped cement medlars reputation as one of the leading uk underground house producers and led to official remixes and approved edits for legendary labels tk disco and west end no less! the medlar seal of quality has led to support from such influential heavyweight selectors as dj harvey, gilles peterson and dj koze. kicking things off we see medlar in straight up dance floor mode on title track nrg, coming through with a drum-heavy workout that utilises a gnarly bassline, echoing synth stabs and rasping hats to excellent effect. flip over for his own dub version which strips things back further placing all the emphasis on the bassline and going heavy on the space echo for a tripped out, dubby warehouse vibe tailor made for the freaky hours. closing the ep we have the aptly named tripped which drops the bpm’s for a low-slung mood-setter to warm up the floors with. a simple groove lays the foundation for a rolling bassline while chiming synths weave in and out of the spacious mix.

first ever reissue of “salsita mami” by lisandro meza y su combo gigante, a highy sought-after discos fuentes “salsa dura” classic lp originally released in 1970. lisandro meza is one of colombia’s most talented all around musical giants. equally adept at playing musical instruments as he is at composition and singing, meza has recorded just about every type of colombian genre as well as his own decidedly colombian versions of salsa, afrobeat, funk and disco.

a rare look into the discotheque era of waikiki, al nobriga’s “my last disco song” tells of a time when nightclubs lined kalakaua avenue and practically every hotel hosted live entertainment. seven days a week, locals rubbed elbows with visitors in discos like the point after, cock’s roost, garden bar, infinity, duke kahanamoku’s, foxy lady too, valentino’s, hawaiian hut—the list goes on.

an in-depth look at the 1970s catalogue of the uruguayan label macondo and the roots of subtropical music: bomba, cumbia, guaracha, merengue, porro, plena featuring 21 tracks by essential names such as sonora borinquen, conjunto casino, combo camagüey, sonora cienfuegos, grupo maracaibo, grupo antillano. set up in the port area of montevideo, macondo discos was founded by the chilean entrepreneur luis onel and named after the town from garcía márquez’s fictional universe. in its early days the label produced a catalogue comprising folk, tango, murga and rock. 1975 onwards, after the release of the lps tropical caliente by cienfuegos and exclusivo! by borinquen, marks the golden age of tropical music in our country according to carlos goberna, founder of sonora borinquen. macondo became a veritable tropical music factory in uruguay, amassing together with guacamayo (a sublabel dedicated to new artists) nearly 200 records in its ten years of existence.

after showcasing the debut releases from the high on wye quintet (magic mountain high, soulphiction and steevio) and monoak, the freerotation label returns with a various artists 12” featuring four more artists intrinsically linked by the annual festival. anthony child, aka surgeon, has been a regular fixture since first appearing at freerotation in 2011. his recent exploration of modular synthesis and use of the buchla music easel has found a home in the ambient yurt at the festival, and equally has manifested in album projects such as 2015’s electronic recordings from maui jungle vol 1. “unconscious fearless determination” follows on from this more experimental, less dancefloor-focused side to child’s work, while still pulsing with the techno fundamentals that quickly defined him back in the mid ‘90s. duckett hails from north wales, and has been a key part of the freerotation fabric since the beginning of the event. after some releases on mindtours, mindyourhead and sthlmaudio back in the mid-‘00s, his music has started to reach a new audience through releases on untilmyheartstops and a clutch of lauded live performances. “breaks my heart when i remember that day” captures the alien synthesis and emotional heft that singles duckett out as such a remarkable artist. steevio is the co-founder of freerotation and mindtours records, responsible for a huge swathe of techno releases reaching back to the ‘90s. as well as his releases on mindtours, he has recently appeared on untilmyheartstops and in collaboration with pev on schmorgabsord, and is set to appear on russ gabriel’s new label rivers of groove. with its expressive swells of off-kilter melody and snaking drum lines, “pendulum” continues the thread of exploration steevio has been following on his journey into experimental modular techno. tom ellis has been prolifically issuing forth material in a soul-enriched space in between house, techno and funk for more than ten years. from running the acclaimed trimsound label to releasing albums and singles on telegraph, archipel, hartchef discos and more recently ethereal sound to name but a few, tom’s recorded work and immersive live performances continue to reach out to new moods and timbres. “as a take” finds tom at his most reflective, layering on dubby effects and organic instrumentation in a truly meditative end to the ep.

cymasonic s offshoot vinyl-only label returns with the enigmatic argentinian artist fede zerdan contributing to cymawax s second outing. originally from tucumán, but currently living in barcelona, zerdan has established himself as a member of the discos paradiso crew. it s always the heads-down types that are the ones to watch out for and zerdan exemplifies letting the music do the talking. so what is he saying with the low boost ep? techno is unrivaled when it s at its most deep and immersive. a must have … this techno artifact was meant for wax.

limited nice price blow out ... disconet was created as subscription program service, which professionally selected and mixed disco music for discotheque djs, mobile discos and radio stations. disconet is called as the granddaddy of all remix services and provided mixed/segued dj dance sets, not only to make the djs job a little bit easier, but to expose club goers to new music. the djs spinning at the height of the disco era were given access to a new creative tool - a different interpretation of current dance tunes to wow club goers. originally, the disconet records were to be issued on a monthly basis which were limited to 1000 - 1500 copies of each volume. the first disconet record was released in october 1977. disconet team at that time was: tom savarese, bobby dj guttadaro and kevin guilmet as well as mike wilkinson. tom, bobby and kevin were dj legends, who had already been awarded with the dj of the year title by billboard. these greatest hits volumes contain their finest work, the original licensed disco edits of all the floor fillers of the time that have been re issued for your listening pleasure. expect many more volumes in the near future.
